🐴 Bi Xenon High Beam Not Working
Earth on pin 2 of the headlight connector and the shutter wire from pin 5 hl connector to pin 41 of my frm module the PL2 FRM II (LED,NSW) date 0609. Coded the CAS VO and FRM VO ( Add $522) and re-coded the FRM with the code data. I added the TRC code data in a attachment. All works fine, Pull stalk is Flash to pass with xenon but no high beam.
Here are the symptoms. 1. The Halogens come on as DRL’s in the daytime, if the dashboard switch is set to OFF. (Good) 2. The low beam works fine if switched on manually anytime, and the DRL’s go off. (Good) 3. The low beams work if it’s dark, and switch is set to auto, and DRL’s go off.
I'm pretty sure the change from Bi-Xenon to the Xenon with Halogen high beam happened mid 2004 as the WIS/EPC seems to indicate. If you look at eeuroparts for example it shows a change in the fitted part at chassis #41050461/41050462 (sedans) and 46015226/46015227(convertibles).
If you code the ALKZ, a value for the bixenons set to wert_01 should enable the inner halogen light to light up when you turn on high beams. This is the function that non bixenon cars have. Your car is also coded to have daytime running lights, which are the lights that are on when the car is running without lowbeams on.

The bottom two pics are not applicable, the system changed when the the adaptive lights arrived in 07 and that system was over hauled for the T2 in 08. Trust me, the inner lights are halogen projectors.

The headlights (xenon) are working fine, but when I turn on the high beam, the high beam is not working. It is a bi-xenon headlight. When turning on the high beam, I got the blue icon on the dash that high beam is activated.
2) HIDs have extra components - like a ballast. Those components are not present on halogen cars. So the HIDs are not just different bulbs. 3) In the Z4, like many other modern cars, the high and low beam bulbs on halogen cars are the same. They simply have different reflective sheilding around them.
If the vehicle is equipped with optional adaptive headlights, the bi-xenon headlight is equipped with an electrically activated shutter that directs the low beam cone of light in the same direction as the high beam. Bi-xenon headlights are also equipped with an adaptive headlight control system, which uses stepper motors to rotate the
